Originally I’m from Romania, I came to the Netherlands about 5 years ago to study Software Engineering. The applied science universities here convinced me, as I liked the idea of having more practical than theoretical lessons. Before the Netherlands, I also lived in Ireland and Norway for a bit. As you can probably guess, I’m a big fan of rainy and foggy weather.

Among the things that made me apply here was the idea of working on a product that is actively helping people. I did some research about Ecare and the products that are developed here and I liked what I was finding out. Also, the people I spoke to here gave me the impression of a nice, healthy environment. And so far, that’s very true. My colleagues are nice, genuine people, they did a good job in accommodating me and are always willing to help!

Also, their spontaneity and sense of humor cannot be ignored. And the activities organized here are so much fun. I had a very nice time at Kamp Ecare! We had a party each night we were there and a lot of fun activities. And despite shooting at each other after having drinks, I found the laser tag at night very ‘gezellig’!

What lights me up every day is the problem solving part in my work. Of course, some things are more challenging than others to fix or implement, but in the end, it’s satisfying to see that you solved the ‘puzzle’ and that all the pieces work together. I also like that there is space to be creative, be it in code, during meetings or brainstorming.

For me, a good way to relax and disconnect is driving. Especially early morning or night rides. The streets are quieter and you get to see what’s around you differently, especially early in the morning. So for me, the drive to get to Ecare is a relaxing way to start my day.

Right now I’m working on a new feature for the Werknemerportaal where users can get an overview of other users that are in the same team. I think it’s a very nice feature to work on, because it gives me the opportunity to build it from scratch, both backend and frontend. I’m really excited about it, because in this way, I get to see the workflow of the application which helps me understand how the application works as a system.

Since Ecare has a four-day workweek, I have fridays off and usually try to make the most out of it, because it’s such a nice thing to have! Sometimes I go for a walk or do some shopping. Or if the weather is not the best, I do some cleaning or cook a recipe that takes longer. Once Christmas markets will start, I plan to use some Fridays for that as well🎄

If I could give one piece of advice to a new colleague that start here it would be this: Claudia brings sweets to everyone and if you’re nice to her, you might get a double portion.

But on a more serious note; don’t hesitate to ask questions. And don't let the language be a barrier. People here are so nice and are doing such a good job to accommodate new colleagues, so they’ll be glad to help or provide extra clarifications.
